Remember, be smart. Play smart. Don’t fall for bogus claims of winning systems or wacky dice dice-setting schemes. Learn the secret to craps.

Thanks George.

I didn't necessarily mean that search engines buy traffic from other search engines. Instead search engines have been buying traffic through deals with computer makers (Dell, HP), software makers (Adobe, Mozilla), and other websites (MySpace, Facebook).

Yes, I think it makes sense that a search engine can pay a relatively small sum for undifferentiated traffic, then sell that user's click once they express a very specific information need via a search query. This was the logic of Bill Gross, the founder of Overture (now owned by Yahoo!) and turned out to be true to a degree even he likely underestimated. I believe this story is laid out in the book "The Search" by John Battelle. No violation of the second law here.

Re {"search engines with better paying ads can afford to buy more traffic and improve their algorithmic search more", or, in the same manner, "you can get traffic with a pay-per-click ad, then earn money per impression and create a cash cow like this"}
Do you think that such a way of thinking is valid, in regards to the second law of thermodynamics, or is this very law anything but valid in a business setting?
